PC

  • The compo machine will most probably be a Pentium 4 3.4GHz HT with 1024MB RAM and an ATI Radeon X600 Pro with 256MB of VRAM.
  • We will use Windows XP with Service Pack 2, DirectX 9.0c (February 2005 with D3DX) and ATI Catalyst 5.2 drivers. We will NOT install any drivers or virtual machines to provide or improve DOS compatibility, don't expect anything more than Mode13h and nosound if you really dare to submit a DOS demo.
  • This year, we won't accept Linux submissions in the Demo and Intro compos. The number of Linux entries has been extremely low the last few years; it just isn't worth the additional trouble.
  • You will have to state which graphics hardware your demo/intro is compatible to on the submission form ("Compatibility Chart"). Please do so truthfully.
  • Pressing either ESC or Alt-F4 has to end the demo instantly.
  • The entry has to be delivered as single .zip or .rar file.
  • Maximum resolution is 1024x768 pixels.
  • If you have no experience on how to make demos look good on the bigscreen, we strongly suggest reading this article by kb/farbrausch.
  • Java and .NET is not allowed in the intro compos; you may submit a Java/.NET demo, though. (We'll try to have a current JDK/.NET runtime installed, but having an install-version available if you submit such an entry would be a good idea anyway :).

If you have questions or suggestions about these rules, contact the organizers at .

demo

  • Maximum size is 16MB zipped/rared for ALL files (including readmes etc)
  • Maximum running time: 15 minutes - please try to keep under 10 minutes if you can though!
  • Java and .NET entries are allowed.

64k intro

  • Maximum size is 65536 bytes for the executable. All other files in the archive will be deleted before showing the entry in the competition.
  • Maximum running time: 10 minutes.
  • Java and .NET entries are not allowed.
  • Please note that both msvcr70.dll and msvcr71.dll will not be available on the compo machine!

4k intro

  • Maximum size is 4096 bytes for the executable. All other files in the archive will be deleted before showing the entry in the competition.
  • Maximum running time: 5 minutes.
  • For the sake of getting more compatible entries this year, import by ordinal for DLLs with non-fixed ordinals is forbidden. Please use alternative, more compatible techniques like muhmacs import by hash to save on executable size. Update: Thanks to peci, we now have some import by hash source code available for anyone who is not familiar with the technique.
  • It is okay to deliver bigger versions of the 4k along with the compo version (which must be <=4096 bytes) in the same archive. We will not show the bigger version in the compo. If your packer doesn't work on the compo machine, it's your problem. We will be able to provide you with details about the compo machine, though.
  • Java and .NET entries are not allowed.
  • Please note that both msvcr70.dll and msvcr71.dll will not be available on the compo machine!
